ID Card FAQ

If you misplace, lose or believe your UAlbany ID Card has been stolen, you must deactivate it as soon as possible (it can be reactivated if found without buying a new card). The person to whom a UAlbany ID Card has been issued is responsible for keeping his/her card secure and is liable for all activity on the UAlbany ID Card until it is deactivated.

For your protection and safety, your UAlbany ID Card can be used by only you. Cashiers who accept UAlbany ID Cards as a form of payment will verify that the card belongs to the person making the purchase and will not accept a UAlbany ID Card as a form of payment if the photo on the card does not match the person using the card. Additionally, cashiers may require a second form of photo identification for purchases made with a UAlbany ID Card or credit card.

Purchases made with your UAlbany ID Card that exceed $25 will require a second form of picture identification. Refunds are not provided for money or meals fraudulently spent on a UAlbany ID Card.

Any department or organization that accepts your UAlbany ID Card as a form of payment, verification, or access to events or services has the right to confiscate your card if the card does not belong to the person using the card. Confiscated cards will not be returned to the original cardholder. Anyone involved in the fraudulent use of a UAlbany ID Card is subject to card replacement costs and may be subject to conduct review and University policies.

If you misplace, lose or believe your UAlbany ID Card has been stolen, you must immediately deactivate it on the ID Card Portal, by using the CBORD Mobile ID app, at the ID Card Office (CC B-52), or at the University Police Department (UPD). Refunds are not provided for money or meals fraudulently spent on a UAlbany ID Card. For your protection, cashiers who accept UAlbany ID Card as a form of payment will verify that the card belongs to the person making the purchase and will not accept an ID card as a form of payment if the photo on the card does not match the person using the card. The temporary card will provide access to a student’s residence hall/apartment, meal plan and other campus funds. Note that the UAlbany CBORD Mobile ID app (if downloaded) will allow for all ID Card transactions in dining, residence hall access, vending and bookstore while a physical card is deactivated. CDTA bus access is not included on a temp card.

When a temporary ID card is issued, the student will receive an automatic email with replacement instructions. A replacement must be ordered within 3 days and activated within 4 more days (a temporary ID card is active for a total of 7 days). The temporary ID card must then be returned to the office where it was issued

FACULTY/STAFF:

Faculty/staff can receive a temporary card from the ID Card Office or UPD. The temporary card will provide access to buildings and campus funds. Note that the UAlbany CBORD Mobile ID app (if downloaded) will continue to allow for all ID card transactions while a physical card is deactivated, including hall/door access. CDTA bus access is not included on a temp card.

When a temporary ID card is issued, the faculty/staff member will receive an automatic email with replacement instructions. Yes, if you find your UAlbany ID Card or have it returned to you after you have deactivated it, you can now go to the ID Card Portal or onto the CBORD Mobile ID App to reactivate it. You cannot reactivate a card that was replaced.

All UAlbany ID Card services previously assigned to your card will immediately carry over to your replacement card, except CDTA service. For CDTA swipe service, please note that it will take 3 business days for CDTA to update their system with your new magnetic stripe information. As a result, when you swipe your new card to ride the CDTA bus, you may be denied from riding until the CDTA system is fully updated. Also, if you are not registered for classes during the current semester or are not a current University employee, you will be denied from riding CDTA or the UAlbany purple bus routes with your card.

University at Albany students, faculty members, or University or affiliated entity staff can now modify a Preferred First Name for their ID Cards. Learn more about how to make these changes and about the University Preferred Name Policy here.
