SATURDAY, MAY 4 8PM $25
This a cappella ensemble of six African-American women performs music that lives
deep within our souls and challenges us to examine our perceptions, our motives,
and our actions. Its music is rooted in the rich tradition of the African American
church and grounded in the freedom songs of the Civil Rights Movement.
ISAAC HAYES & CYRUS CHESTNUT QUARTET
Saturday, May 4, 2002 @ 8 PM
Isaac Hayes (Theme from "Shaft")is not only a great R&B performer
- but his roots as a singer and musician reach deep into blues and jazz. He's
sharing Proctor's stage with the astonishing Cyrus Chestnut (Cyrus Chestnut
& Friends, A Charlie Brown Christmas) - whose virtuostic piano playing has
prompted the Detroit News to describe him as "a pianistic wizard who blends
the agility of Oscar Peterson with the incisiveness of Monk."
