County Level Healthy Infrastructure Plans
These model plans will be developed in cooperation with county officials, health organizations,
hospitals, insurers, public works agencies, recreation programs and community leaders. Counties will
be selected from criteria developed to identify at-risk communities, with a target for a diverse
range of urban, rural and suburban locations. In the first year of the initiative, 2 prototype county
plans were developed for Bronx and Otsego Counties. In year 2, plans were created for Orange, Essex,
Tompkins and Albany counties. Plans for Manhattan, Monroe and Ulster Counties are now available.
Plans are periodically updated and are available for direct download on this website or on CD
at your request.

GIS Resources
One of iHi's primary tasks has been an extensive inventory and analysis of "healthy infrastructure" in New York State through the use of GIS. iHi has produced an extensive data set for much of the state. If any one is interested in this data, please contact iHi.

Additionally, iHi offers technical assistance with GIS, as well as intensive GIS training.

Spanish Language Pedestrian Safety Video

We see this video as both an education "tool" as well as a great strategy for involving families in Safe Routes to School. It was created by the Spanish-speaking Dresden Elementary Safe Routes to School Mothers Club in Chamblee, Georgia to address a need they saw for pedestrian education for Spanish-speaking parents at their school. The mothers outlined the concepts they wanted to get across, developed the story line, and served as the "actresses" in the film. A very talented thirteen-year-old did the filming and editing! The small amount of funding it took came from Georgia DOT through our Metro Atlanta Safe Routes to School Project. As a pedestrian education tool, the video covers basic ped safety for parents in Spanish, so we offer this as a resource for those working with Spanish-speaking communities. The development of the video is an example of a strategy that could be used in any community; it engages families in their own educational process and in Safe Routes to School issues as a whole. It's relatively simple to do, very engaging because it's locally tailored, and it has a long-term product at the end.
