Shawn is currently a Deputy Secretary to NYS Senate Minority Leader Malcolm A. Smith. Shawn has been involved politics for over 16 years serving in various governmental and political positions. Prior to becoming Deputy Secretary to Leader Smith, Shawn worked for the current NYS Lt. Governor, David A. Paterson, while he was Senate Minority Leader. Serving in this leadership position, Shawn is responsible for managing the Minority Leader’s overall upstate agenda as well as managing the Minority Leader’s appointments to various boards, commissions, committees and task forces.
In addition to working in the NYS Senate, Shawn has worked in the NYS Assembly for Speaker Sheldon Silver and for the NYS Gubernatorial campaign of former NYS Comptroller H. Carl McCall.
Shawn is a native of Auburn, New York and has lived in the Capitol Region since 1987 when he moved to Albany to attend the University at Albany. He currently resides in Saratoga Springs where he is active in local politics.
“Surviving Organizational Politics” will address and discuss topics relating to the importance of organizational hierarchy and what leadership qualities are the most important in achieving success and surviving politics in the workplace.
