Internships/Externships

"The Office of Career Services emailed us internships on a weekly basis, and provided really great information. I was offered the position at the conclusion of the first interview. Later that day, another department called with an offer, but I took the first one I received. It was so simple. I can't believe how easily it happened."

Maureen Sweet, 12-month internship at GE, Undergraduate in Accounting, Class of 2006

School of Business students are motivated hard workers who must maintain a 3.0 grade point average and master a rigorous curriculum. They recognize that classroom learning is only part of the picture, and look to put their education to work with real-world experience. In doing so, they provide a fresh perspective to the organizations they serve.

Undergrad students who have completed their junior year with a 3.0 average or better, may apply for an internship. Since fulltime graduate students must complete a two-semester field project, they may take on an internship only in the summer after their first year.

Internships, like field projects, are long term, lasting one to two semesters. The school facilitates contacts. Some placements are paid. Students may apply for credit for their experience, but cannot be paid for credit bearing placements.

Externships are short-term opportunities, typically running for a day or a week. Externships often involve job shadowing. Students get a taste of the business world, without a long-term commitment.

Students have interned at Deloitte, Ernst and Young, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Apple, Office of the State Comptroller and others.

Information for Employers

The School of Business advertised the position; within days I had ten to fifteen resumes. Deirdre set up 6 interviews and I chose two students. I had only planned on hiring one, but had such a great pool of candidates, I chose two.

Craig Devoe, Account Executive, Apple (MBA, class of 2005) Found 2 undergraduate interns through the School of Business Career Development Office
