This site provides an excellent search guide for all U.S. universities with direct links to the schools' homepages. It also offers links to universities and colleges in Canada and around the world. Highly recommended.

Comprehensive directory of colleges and universities arranged by the category.
   
College View
This is an online college and university search service, offering "virtual tours" and multimedia presentations of select colleges.
   
Gradschools.com
This site lists graduate schools by field of study. Information on each school includes mailing addresses, phone and fax numbers, and degrees offered. Provides links to email addresses, though not to web pages.
   
Peterson's Education and Career Center
This site provides basic information on graduate schools. It allows users to find a university by name, location, academic areas, and professional degrees, and do keyword searches on in-depth program descriptions.

Offers several links to job resouces and commercial job databases on the Internet.

Provides a lot of career-planning and research information, as well as information on prospective employers. Includes a special section called "Who Am I," which helps you define your interests and goals and what career path is best for you.

Lots of information on how to choose and get into colleges and graduate schools, possible careers, financial aid, student life, and more.

 

Proposals & Grants

On-Line Writing Centers
Offers good tips and guidance for developing writing skills, from grammar and punctuation to how to write more creatively. Purdue University also offers an on-line writing lab (OWL), available to all Internet users interested in getting feedback on their writing. (It also provides links to other on-line writing centers as well.)
   
The Reference Desk
Provides you with information on the small, but very important, details of writing; an on-line dictonary, thesaurus, MLA and APA Citation Guide handbooks, how to cite references on the Web, etc. are available.

Professional Organizations


American Council on Education (ACE)
The American Council on Education (ACE) is the nation's umbrella higher education association. Its approximately 1,800 members include accredited, degree-granting colleges and universities from all sectors of higher education and other education and education-related organizations. ACE is a forum for the discussion of major issues related to higher education and its potential to contribute to the quality of American life. (202) 939-9395)
   
American Educational Research Association
The American Educational Research Association is concerned with improving the educational process by encouraging scholarly inquiry related to education and by promoting the dissemination and practical application of research results.
AERA is the most prominent international professional organization with the primary goal of advancing educational research and its practical application. Its more than 20,000 members are educators; administrators; directors of research, testing or evaluation in federal, state and local agencies; counselors; evaluators; graduate students; and behavioral scientists. The broad range of disciplines represented by the membership includes education, psychology, statistics, sociology, history, economics, philosophy, anthropology, and political science.
   
Commission on Professionals in Science and Technology
The Commission on Professionals in Science and Technology, founded in 1953, a Participating Organization of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, is a nonprofit corporation whose membership includes leading professional societies, corporations, institutions, and individuals concerned with advancing public understanding of professionals in science and technology, their roles, education, and employment. The Commission is charged with collecting, analyzing and disseminating reliable information about the human resources of the United States in the fields of science and technology; promotion of the best possible programs of education and training for potential scientists, engineers and technicians; and the development of policies of utilization of scientific and technological human resources by educational institutions, industry and government for optimum benefit to the nation. Academe Today is a service of The Chronicle of Higher Education. Published weekly, The Chronicleis the No. 1 news source for college and university faculty members and administrators. A subscription to The Chronicle includes free access to the Academe Today World-Wide Web site and daily electronic-mail updates.
   
The Council of Graduate Schools
The Council of Graduate Schools Virtual Center for Research on Graduate Education provides statistics on trends in graduate enrollment, program completions, the job market for Ph.D.'s, and other areas of graduate life and research. CGS membership is comprised of educational institutions and graduate school personnel.
