What is the Psychological Services Center?
The Psychological Services Center (PSC) is a community mental health clinic serving the Capital Region to provide the following services:
- Individual psychotherapy for:
- Adults
- Children, adolescents and their parents/guardians
- Couples and Families
- Group psychotherapy
- Career assessment and counseling
- Psychological assessment for children, adolescents and adults
- Trainings and workshops
We do not accept health insurance as payment for these services; instead, we operate on a low-cost sliding scale to determine fees.

Who provides the services?
The Psychological Services Center is a training and research clinic for the College of Arts & Sciences’ Clinical Psychology doctoral program and the School of Education’s Counseling Psychology doctoral program at UAlbany.
Services are provided by doctoral students who have completed at least one year of training. Students are supervised closely by faculty members, who are all licensed psychologists.
The Center reserves the right to determine whether the services we offer are appropriate for a potential client. If we determine we cannot appropriately meet your needs, we will attempt to help you find more appropriate treatment resources.
What can I expect as a prospective client?
Step 1: Schedule Brief Telephone Interview
When you first call the Center, you will talk to our administrative staff, who will schedule you for a brief telephone interview with one of our clinicians.

Step 2: Brief Telephone Interview
At your scheduled time, a clinician will call you to complete the brief telephone interview (20 to 30 minutes).
This conversation will help us develop a good understanding of your concerns and make an informed decision on the best treatment or assessment options for you.
Step 3: Scheduling or Referral
The Center reserves the right to determine whether the services we offer are appropriate for a potential client. If we determine we cannot appropriately meet your needs, we will attempt to help you find more appropriate resources.
If we determine that our services would be appropriate for you, you'll be added to our wait list and one of our clinicians will call you to schedule your requested service when a slot becomes available.

Step 4: First Appointment
Your clinician will use your first appointment to get to know you and understand your concerns and the reasons why you’re seeking services. You’ll also discuss the confidential nature of our services and complete required forms.
Please arrive on time for your appointment. If you’re unable to attend, please call the clinic at 518-442-4900 at least 24 hours before your appointment.
