Languages, Literatures and Cultures

Arabic, French, German, Italian, Latin, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish

Language tables and clubs meet regularly during the academic year (suspended over breaks and summer) to speak the language in informal settings and enjoy time with friends.

LLC Seminars provide a variety of academic topics engaging LLC, the university and the community.

Our annual Living in Languages Conference focuses on issues of “translation” in a literal, but also an expanded sense, from questions of reading and ideology to translation understood as exile, displacement geographical and linguistic, and translation in our era of Twitter/X consciousness, warring media bubbles, and the screen as public space (conference journal).

French Diplôme de français professionnel (DFP) - UAlbany is a certified testing site offering the French DFP Affaires, an internationally recognized certification of competence in Business French from the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry.  The DFP (level) A2 exam is open to the public and offered every May (we do not currently administer the TEF exam).  Business French (AFRE270) is offered each spring to help prepare for the exam.  Questions?  Contact site coordinator Véronique Martin ([email protected]) or the LLC Office 518-442-4100.  French faculty from other institutions are welcome to coordinate opportunities for their students to take the course and/or the exam (contact [email protected]).

As well as guest speakers, film screenings, and other special events

Come be part of the community as we connect, explore and learn together!
