MACHINAL
by Sophie Treadwell
Directed by Sarah Blush

Based on the real-life sensational murder trial that also inspired “Double Indemnity,” this 1928 Expressionist classic follows “ordinary young woman” Helen Jones from her job in a stifling office, to marrying her predatory boss; from a breath of air with the lover she meets in a speakeasy, to murdering her husband after her lover abandons her; all building to a climatic courtroom scene. A stunning, groundbreaking feminist work, directed by Sarah Blush in her UAlbany debut.
