Dean's List & Letter
The UAlbany Dean’s List recognizes the outstanding academic achievements of our full-time undergraduate student body.
To qualify for the Dean’s List, UAlbany students must earn a grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 or higher in their first semester of study. In subsequent semesters, students must earn a GPA of 3.50 or higher. Additionally, students must complete at least 12 graduation credits in courses graded A to E, with no grade lower than a C and no Incomplete (I) grades.
The UAlbany Dean’s Letter of Commendation for Part-Time Students adheres to the same stringent requirements as the Dean’s List, except that it allows for students to complete a minimum of 6 credits.
If you’ve had a grade change, you may request retroactive inclusion in the Dean’s List or Dean’s Letter.
Visit Merit Pages to see the students who recently qualified for the Dean's List & Dean's Letter.

Honors Medallions
Honors Medallions are used at Commencement to recognize or distinguish students that have achieved Latin Honors — Cum Laude, Magna Cum Laude, and Summa Cum Laude.
All Latin Honors designations receive the same medallion.
If you have questions about eligibility, please email [email protected]. If you have questions about purchasing, please contact AcaDamien’s Bookstore. The Office of Undergraduate Education does not handle transactions.
To qualify for an Honors Medallion, undergraduate students must satisfy all the following eligibility criteria:
-
Achieved a GPA of at least 3.25
-
Completed at least 56 credits at UAlbany, including at least 40 credits graded A to E at UAlbany
The following students are disqualified from receiving an Honors Medallion:
-
Students who will graduate after the Summer Sessions, even if they are approved to participate in Commencement early
-
Students who do not apply for graduation on time
-
Students who do not have the required GPA by the end of the preceding fall semester
-
Students who have fewer than 56 credits at UAlbany (Note: This requirement may be waived if the student is approved for an exception. See below.)
Students who have met the eligibility criteria for an Honors Medallion are notified by email in mid-April.
Students are only able to purchase a medallion before the spring Commencement ceremony in May. Purchases are made directly through AcaDamien’s Bookstore.
If you didn’t receive an email, you may request an Honors Medallion under these circumstances:
-
If you applied for graduation late, but your fall cumulative GPA was over 3.25, you may request a medallion before Commencement.
-
If you don’t currently qualify for an Honors Medallion, but you will achieve the required GPA this spring, you may request a medallion after spring grades have been posted, which may be after Commencement.
If you have not completed at least 56 credits at UAlbany, you may request an exception. Other eligibility requirements cannot be waived.
