Media Advisory: UAlbany Associates and Friends Remember Kurt Vonnegut
The famed author, who died on April 11 at 84, was named State Author by the New York State Writers Institute in 2001; his late brother Bernard was a faculty member at the University

ALBANY, N.Y. (April 12, 2007) -- Kurt Vonnegut's ties to the Albany area were strong. The University at Albany's New York State Writers Institute named  Kurt Vonnegut the New York State Author in 2001, an honor he held until 2003. In his early days, Vonnegut worked at General Electric in Schenectady, and his late brother Bernard was a Distinguished Professor of Atmospheric Science at UAlbany.
