LIST OF USEFUL PERSONAL ITEMS WHEN TRAVELLING IN HAITI
  1. Inconspicuous bag for money/passport
  2. Casual clothing that communicates your dignity as a professional and guest in Haiti
  3. Toiletries(Unscented soaps, etc are recommended)
  4. Small bottles of water(1 or 2 in carry-on and 3-4 in luggage)
  5. Duct tape/luggage straps
  6. Rugged luggage
  7. Large garbage bags to wrap luggage in in case of a truck ride
  8. Flashlight(with extra batteries)
  9. Insect repellent(DEET)
  10. Sunscreen
  11. Roll of toilet paper/Wet Ones(put in baggies-always carry with you)
  12. Towel/wash cloth
  13. Xeroxed copies of front page of passport
  14. Sunglasses
  15. Snacks(i.e. Juice boxes, granola bars, Crackers,etc)
  16. Imodium, Pepto Bismol, Dramamine, Advil, Tylenol
  17. Journal/notebook & pen
  18. Small bills of American Money
  19. Carry a packing list of what is in each suitcase.

If you can, take a small photo album with you to show your family, your hometown, where you live, go to school, friends etc..

  1. motion sickness pills
  2. metamucil for constipation and diarrhea
  3. aspirin and tylenol
  4. benadryl
  5. antibiotic, antibacterial ointment ( I took tea tree oil )
  6. hand wash and/or wet wipes
  7. bandaids
  8. gauze pads and first aid tape
  9. sunblock
  10. lip balm with sunblock
  11. insect repellent (30% DEET and non-DEET)
  12. peppermint oil (which my daughter found very useful when the smell of the burning fields made her sick to her stomach)
  13. travel toilet tissue
  14. zinc oxide
  15. herbal salve
  16. manicure scissors and tweezers
  17. zip lock bags in several sizes
  18. We also took garlic capsules and ginger capsules as preventatives - don't know how much they helped.
  19. Also, don't forget flashlights with fresh batteries.
