Graduate CeremonyGraduation is an exciting and memorable event for students and their families, as well as the University community. We hope that all of our graduates will celebrate their achievements and acknowledge the support of their families and friends by participating in this year's Commencement ceremonies. It is our goal to assist you in making the necessary arrangements for your family by providing you with Commencement Weekend event information well in advance.
Please be aware that detailed information will be mailed to the permanent address of each graduate in mid-March. If you require further information please call the Commencement Hotline at 518/442-9079.
Commencement Ceremony Sunday, May 23, 1999
Undergraduate Ceremony 10 a.m.
Pepsi ArenaGraduates should arrive by 9:15 a.m. for assembly in the Exhibition Hall (Entrance on Beaver Street). Participants must wear proper academic regalia and have participant ticket.
Graduate Ceremony 2:30 p.m.
Recreation and Convocation CenterGraduates should arrive by 1:30 p.m. for assembly in the first floor lobby of the Physical Education Building. Participants must wear academic regalia. Each degree candidate will be individually recognized.
Tickets UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS
Who needs a ticket?
All degree candidates must have a ticket in order to be admitted to the University's 155th Commencement exercises at the Pepsi Arena. No exceptions can be made to this policy on Commencement day.
Guests also will need tickets to gain admission. Get them in advance. No tickets will be available on Commencement day.
Candidates: Give your family and friends tickets in advance of the ceremony and do not forget to bring your own ticket.
How many tickets are available?
Each graduate will be issued one ticket for themselves and EIGHT guest tickets ONLY.
- No extra tickets are available. Seniors looking for extra tickets can only get them from other seniors who are not using their eight allotted tickets.
- Tickets will NOT be available at the Pepsi Arena on the day of the ceremony.
- Lost tickets cannot be replaced.
Where and when can you get tickets?
Eligible undergraduate students must pick up participant and guest tickets from May 314, 1999 in the Office of the Registrar, CC B25. Degree candidates should have already received a schedule in the mail.
A University identification card will be required. All students wishing to attend Commencement should plan to pick up tickets and other commencement related information during this period.
No tickets will be available at the Pepsi Arena on commencement day.
Undergraduate degree recipients who graduated in August 1998 or December 1998 and who are unable to come to the Registrar's Office must request their tickets IN WRITING by May 7, 1999. Written ticket request should be mailed to:

Tickets will be sent to you by return mail, so please include the mailing address to which the tickets should be sent. Tickets will not be available for pick-up on the day of the ceremony.Unneeded tickets
The University has a need for additional tickets for guests at commencement. We would greatly appreciate if you do not have a need for all of your tickets that you kindly drop them off at one of these locations:
Tickets dropped off at these locations cannot be replaced.

GRADUATE STUDENTS
Participants and guests do NOT need tickets to be admitted to the Graduate ceremony at the Recreation and Convocation Center (RACC) on the uptown campus.
School and College Events All graduates and family members and faculty are invited to the University for special receptions and recognition events, locations to be announced:
College of Arts and Sciences: Undergraduate reception, immediately following the undergraduate ceremony, in the University Art Museum. Graduate reception in the Library Gardens, immediately following the graduate ceremony. Rockefeller College: Ten Broeck Courtyard, Dutch Quad, immediately following the undergraduate ceremony. School of Business: Business School Courtyard, immediately following the undergraduate ceremony. School of Education: Hall of Fame Room, RACC, immediately following the graduate ceremony. School of Public Health: East Campus, immediately following the graduate ceremony.

Honors Convocation 1:30 p.m.
Recreation & Convocation CenterConvocation for students who have won special University recognition. By invitation. Contact Dean of Undergraduate Studies (518/442-3950).
Torch Night Ceremony 9 p.m.
Small Fountain Campus Center PodiumSeniors will pass the class torch to the Junior class. They will be joined by the President of the University and President of the Alumni Association for this traditional event. Processional assembly at 8:30 p.m. A reception will follow. Contact Student Life (518/442-5566).
Important Dates
Feb. 12 Degree applications due in the Registrar's Office. Feb. 15 Bookstore begins taking orders for Ph.D. regalia rental for students and Faculty. April 18 Last day to rent Ph.D. regalia without a late fee. Apr. 1 May 22 Bookstore sells bachelor's and master's regalia. May 3 May 7 Commencement tickets are available in the Registrar's Office, CC B-25. May 14 Last day to rent Ph.D. caps and gowns through the University Bookstore. (Late fee charged after April 18) May 17 May 22 Bookstore distributes Ph.D. rental regalia. May 28 Rental regalia to be returned to the Bookstore.
