with David Wills, Chair of the Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures and Tom Cohen, Chair of the Department of English Anyone wishing to become more familiar with the teachings and philosophy of Jacques Derrida is invited to attend these seminars.
Derrida visits the University at Albany October 11th to present a lecture entitled "The Future of the Profession or the Unconditional University," at Page Hall, 4:30 pm. He has been described as the world's most famous living philosopher and the most influential thinker of our time. His strategies of analysis, known as "Deconstruction," have been applied to literature, linguistics, philosophy, law and architecture. "Deconstructive" readings challenge the idea that a text has an unchanging, unified meaning.
Suggested readings for, the pre-lecture seminar: "Force of Law" and "Declarations of Independence" are available in the Dept. of Languages, Literatures and Cultures, HU 235 and the Dept. of English, HU 333.
