Biostatistics Master of Science Degree Program
Requirements for Admission
In addition to the general university requirements for admission to master's study described earlier in this bulletin, an applicant's undergraduate major preferably should have been in the mathematical and/or statistical sciences. Students lacking preparation in these areas must make up such deficiencies.
Program Requirements (39 credits, minimum)
Core Courses (27 credits):
- Sta 669 Master's Seminar in Biostatistics (3) - with departmental approval, thesis may be presented in lieu of Sta 669
- Sta 554 Introduction to Theory of Statistics I (3)
- Sta 555 Introduction to Theory of Statistics II (3)
- Sta 558 Methods of Data Analysis I (3)
- Sta 559 Methods of Data Analysis II (3)
- Epi 503 Principles of Public Health (3)
- Choose one (3 credits) -
1. Sta 556 Intro to Bayesian Inference I (3)
2. Sta 560 Introduction to Stochastic Processes I (3)
3. Sta 562 Design of Experiments I (3)
4. Sta 564 Sample Survey Methodology I (3)
5. Sta 566 Analysis of Categorical Data I (3) - Six (6) credits of Biology, Epidemiology or Public Health courses as approved by advisor
Support Courses (12 credits):
- 12 credits as approved by advisor
Master's Project:
- Satisfactory completion of the Master's Project
