UAlbany Hosts Collegiate Choral Festival

The University at Albany and five other area colleges will come together for the fourth annual concert featuring music spanning the world through the centuries.
David Griggs-Janower, now in his 20th year as director of choral music at UAlbany, will lead UAlbany�s Chorale and Chamber Singers. Janower is also the founder and director of the renowned Albany Pro Musica, a semi-professional community chorus that has been featured frequently on National Public Radio�s �Performance Today.
Also participating in the Choral Fest will be The College of St. Rose Chamber Singers under the direction of Mike Levi, the RPI Concert Choir under the direction of Steven Marking, the SCCC Vocal Chamber Ensemble under the direction of Ping Yu, The Skidmore College Vocal Chamber Ensemble under the direction of Janet McGhee and the Union College Choir under the direction of Victor Klimash.
Selections of music from around the globe will include works from Malaysia, Israel, Brazil, Japan, New Zealand, Ecuador, and Spain. Also featured will be African American spirituals, a Requiem Mass by 19th century Afro-Brazilian composer Nunes Garcia and two Magnificats � one by Mozart and the other by Italian composer Antonio Caldara.
The performance is Sunday, November 9, 2003, at 3pm in the Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center. Tickets are $5 for the general public and $2 for students and may be purchased through the Performing Arts Center Box Office.
