Incoming UAlbany freshman Nick Casale has been named as the recipient of the Capital District Student Scholarship, sponsored by New York Giants Football, Inc. and the University at Albany. The scholarship provides Casale with a monetary award equivalent to the tuition costs of four years at the University at Albany. A native of Waterford, N.Y. and 2004 graduate of LaSalle Institute in Troy, Casale was recognized as part of the welcome program at Giants Media Day on July 28.
Casale, who is a UAlbany Presidential Scholar and will play Great Danes football in the fall, was a consensus All-Area offensive center and linebacker at LaSalle. He was named to the Troy Record first team, and was a second-team selection by the Albany Times Union and Daily Gazette. A first-team All-Big 10 League selection, Casale made 88 tackles on defense and blocked for one of the area's top rushers. He also served as president of his high school's National Honor Society. Casale plans to study business administration at UAlbany.
