UAlbany's Theatre Department presents a comedic classic
Moliere |
The timeless French comedy, Tartuffe, comes to life in the intimate setting of the Performing Arts Centers Studio Theatre. Performances are on Friday and Saturday, November 5 & 6 at 8 p.m.; Thursday through Saturday, November 1113 at 8 p.m.; Sunday, November 14 at 3 p.m. and Wednesday through Saturday, November 1720 at 8 p.m.
In Tartuffe, the playwright Moliere tells the story of the father of all religious hypocrites and his pursuit of the holiest of ideals:money! The play is set in seventeenth-century opulent Parisian high society during the reign of King Louis XIV. Because the play focuses on the issue of religious hypocrisy, it was highly controversial at the time it was written. In it, the playwright examines the evil men commit in the guise of religious fervor, and the dangers which imperil those who would believe only what they choose to believe -- despite a mountain of evidence to the contrary.
