UAlbany senior is awarded a prestigious legislative internship

Claudia Matthews, a senior from Brooklyn, NY, was awarded a prestigious Stanley Fink Legislative Internship and now works in the office of New York State Assemblyman Joseph Lentol. A dual major in political science and English, Matthews boasts a 3.86 grade point average and a host of other academic achievements including Omicron Delta Kappa, a Thurgood Marshall Internship, Dean�s List, Spellman Academic Awards and Presidential Honor Society.
Supported by an initial grant from Bell-Atlantic Foundation, the internship is named for the late Stanley Fink, former speaker of the New York State Assembly and a former senior executive with Bell-Atlantic. To be eligible for the internship, a student must meet the academic requirements for the Dean�s List and have earned at least 56 academic credits at UAlbany.
In addition to her academic accomplishments, Matthews has been involved in numerous campus activities including tutoring, Red Cross Blood drives and Habitat for Humanity. She has also volunteered at the campus U-Kids Daycare Center.
Matthews has held previous internships with two law firms and also worked twice at the New York State Attorney General�s Office. Her valuable real-world experience at UAlbany has laid the groundwork for her future plans which include law school and a career in politics.
