It's no small task to move the NY Giants into their summer home at UAlbany. Many UAlbany staff members and students are involved in the logistics and plans to help make the summer training camp go smoothly. Among them are Vincent Porfirio, a junior English major from Schoharie, N.Y., and Wagner Samaniego, a Clifton Park, N.Y., native and graduate student in information science and policy. Working with UAlbany's plant department, Vincent is preparing housing for the team's arrival. Wagner is handling relocation duties - "packing, moving, unpacking" - from the Giants' home base at the Meadowlands. Once the team arrives at UAlbany, he'll handle technical support management.
Vincent will work with the team until mid-August, when his training for a position as a resident assistant on Indian Quad begins. He recalls, however, "jumping at" the internship opportunity. "My daily duties vary, but I'm given a lot of responsibility, such as furniture removal and setup, cleaning, working with the maids and grounds crew. You name it; we do it. I love it; I am learning so much. My favorite part of the job is working with the team. I get to meet the players, the coach, owners, trainers, and all of those who essentially work behind the scenes. It is truly an extraordinary experience."

Wagner has worked with the Giants "every summer since 2002, through Residential Life. When I was a student assistant there, I applied for the internship." For the aspiring systems analyst, who is enrolled in the combined B.A./MSIS and plans to complete his master's studies next May, the internship is "the experience of a lifetime. All the networking and computer languages courses I've taken at UAlbany have made the transition much easier. Working at ResNet has also given me the best experience and background in networking."
Both Wagner and Vince believe in the opportunities that internships provide. Wagner observes, "internships give you a heads-up of what to look for in the real world, but they also help you network with people in your own field who can help you get on the right path."
Vincent agrees. "Every experience you have helps you, and an internship is a great way to remove yourself from the classroom and get truly remarkable hands-on experience. It also doesn't hurt to find an internship that pays well and looks amazing on a resume!" Related Links:
