UAlbany Celebrates Black History Month
ALBANY, N.Y. (February 04, 2011) --
Economist, author, and commentator Dr. Julianne Malveaux will give the 32nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Black History Month lecture on Feb. 9 at 1 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center at the University at Albany.

The event kicks off the celebration of Black History Month at UAlbany. Malveaux is the president of Bennett College for Women in Greensboro, N.C.
The lecture and reception are free and open to the public. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
In addition to her newspaper columns and media appearances, Malveaux is an accomplished editor, committed activist and civic leader. She has appeared on national networks such as FOX, MSNBC, CNBC, CNN, and BET.
Malveaux is the author of two anthologies: Sex, Lies, and Stereotypes: Perspectives of a Mad Economist and Wall Street, Main Street, and the Side Street: A Mad Economist Takes a Stroll. She is also co-author of Unfinished Business: A Democrat and a Republican Take on the 10 Most Important Issues Women Face and has most recently written Surviving and Thriving: 365 Facts in Black Economic History.
Malveaux received bachelor's and master's degrees in economics from Boston College, and earned a doctorate in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Other highlights of UAlbany's celebration of Black History Month include:
• A jazz concert by Annette Harris and Azzaam Hameed on Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Recital Hall of the Performing Arts Center, sponsored by the Department of Africana Studies and co-sponsored and funded by University Auxiliary Services.
• The Motown Story: 1960-1965 by singer, writer, actor, and teacher Donald Hyman on Feb. 18 at 4:30 p.m. in Humanities 39. This lecture is sponsored by the Department of Africana Studies.
All UAlbany Black History Month events are free and open to the public.
