Athletic Director Lee McElroy Named to McLendon Administrators Hall of Fame

To be Inducted at NACDA National Convention in Dallas Next June

Dr. Lee McElroy is in his 12th year as UAlbany athletic director.

Albany, N.Y. (November 16, 2011) - The John McLendon Minority Scholarship Foundation, in partnership with the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), is proud to announce that NACDA Past President and current Vice President and Director of Athletics at the University at Albany Lee McElroy will be inducted into the John McLendon Minority Athletics Administrators Hall of Fame as the NACDA representative on the evening of June 27, 2012.

The induction ceremony will be held in conjunction with the 47th Annual NACDA Convention at the Hilton Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas.

McElroy, who is in his 12th year as UAlbany's vice president and director of athletics, provides leadership for Albany's NCAA Division I 19-sport intercollegiate athletics program for men and women. He served as NACDA's President in 2006-07 and was recognized as the Under Armour Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Northeast Region Athletic Director of the Year. In 2010, McElroy was selected to the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA) Board of Directors.

During his tenure, UAlbany has won 50 conference championships and made 19 NCAA appearances in men's basketball, men's lacrosse, softball, women's volleyball, women's lacrosse, baseball, women's field hockey and men's and women's track and field. In 2004-05, the Great Danes were awarded the Commissioner's Cup as the America East Conference's top athletics program.

McElroy was a key figure when UAlbany successfully completed the NCAA's second cycle of Division I athletics certification. He was honored with the 2004 General Robert R. Neyland Outstanding Athletic Director Award by the All-American Football Foundation.

McElroy, who played football at UCLA in the late 1960s, was previously American University's director of athletics for four years, where he also served as president of the America East Conference Executive Committee in 2003-04. In 1998, he was named to the NACDA Executive Committee for the University Division and chaired the Learfield Sports (previously Sears) Directors' Cup Committee.

McElroy also spent time as the director of athletics at California State University Sacramento and worked at the University of Houston from 1981 to 1988 as assistant director of men's and women's sports and as associate director of athletics, and for one year as the director of athletics at The University of the District of Columbia.
