Men's Lacrosse, Men's & Women's Track & Field, take America East Titles

ALBANY, N.Y. (May 8, 2013) -- For the fifth time in program history, the University at Albany is America East Men's Lacrosse champion, while the Men's and Women's Track & Field teams swept the America East Outdoor Track and Field Championships for the fifth consecutive year -- the ninth straight title for the men's team.
The victory last weekend by lacrosse sends the men's team, ranked 12th in the nation, to Colorado to face the Denver Pioneers on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPNU. UAlbany sophomore Lyle Thompson was named tournament the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament.
Men's track & field was led by junior Alexander Bowen, who shattered the meet record in the high jump with a leap of 7’3.25”, earning the award for Most Outstanding Field Performer. The women, who amassed an America East title meet record of 245 team points, were led by Allison Rogers's victory in the 400 meter-dash, Tynelle Taylor-Chase (Whitby's sweep in 100 and 400-meter hurdles. and Patricia McNish's second straight triple jump title along with victory in the long jump.
Up next, UAlbany will compete at the IC4A/ECAC Championships hosted by Princeton University, from Friday through Sunday. After that, the Great Danes will take part in the NCAA Preliminary Championship in Greensboro, N.C., from May 23-25.
On Sunday, UAlbany also became an America East regular season titlist for the fifth year in softball, when the Great Danes won in thrilling fashion over Binghamton 2-1 at the BU Sports Complex. Junior Lauren Alcorn’s two-run shot to left field was the difference, as the Great Danes claimed top seed for the conference tournament, which begins Thursday.
Also last weekend, the women's lacrosse team advanced to the America East championship game, but fell to top-seeded Stony Brook. UAlbany's Ariana Parker, Jess Antelmi and Allie Phelan each made the all-tournament team.
