UAlbany Center for Women in Government and Civil Society Hosts Community Leader Forum
ALBANY, N.Y. (June 12, 2013) -- The University at Albany's Center for Women in Government and Civil Society is hosting a community conversation on Thursday, June 13, as part of a series of forums designed to raise awareness on issues including food justice and the environment, urban violence and sexuality, reproductive health and political consciousness-raising. The event, "Speed-Dating With Community Leaders: Issues Disproportionately Affecting Women in Our Community," is presented by the 30th Class of the Fellowship on Women & Public Policy.

"The goal of the forum is to help community members who share a passion for affecting local change and improving the lives of women to connect with local organizations, and to learn about new ways to dedicate their time and energy to grassroots causes," said Dina Refki, Director of the Center for Women in Government and Civil Society.
The event will be held at 6 p.m. on June 13, at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 405, Washington Avenue, in Albany. Free parking is available across the street in UAlbany’s Hawley parking lot accessible from Washington Avenue and Robin Street.
The Center for Women in Government & Civil Society (CWGCS), Rockefeller College of Public Policy and Affairs, works to build a society where women and men of all backgrounds participate equally in shaping the future. To further this goal, the 2013 Fellowship Class has developed a series of conversations around critical social issues impacting women. The events seek to raise awareness and build community around the challenges that are preventing women -- especially underserved populations -- from achieving their full potential.
Participants in the program will move from one roundtable discussion to another, exploring issues and ways to get involved. Attendees will learn from organizations including the Free School, Mission Accomplished Transition Services, the Crime Victims and Sexual Violence Center, Holding Our Own, and other community leaders who are on the frontlines promoting social justice by passionately striving for inclusion and equity in our community.
