UAlbany’s New Home for its School of Business Named 'Fourth Most Beautiful in the World'

ALBANY, N.Y. (November 21, 2013) -- The University at Albany School of Business building, which opened in August 2013, has been ranked as the "fourth most beautiful business school in the world," according to an online survey from TopManagementDegrees.com. The survey ranks UAlbany's new School of Business building higher than business school facilities at most of America's leading research universities, such as MIT, Cornell, Columbia, NYU, UC-Berkeley, the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the University of Virginia, and the University of Michigan.

The site’s editors describe the Perkins+Will-designed facility as being "surrounded by an entrance court boasting fountains and green areas, which provides an attractive space where students can meet or relax. Meanwhile, those who want to get right down to business can take advantage of the Bloomberg terminals in the simulated trading room."

UAlbany's new School of Business building ranks 4th in the world for architectural design, according to an online survey from TopManagementDegrees.com.

Noting "the building isn't just pretty," the editors laud the 96,000 square foot structure's sustainable architecture, which includes a sunken garden and floor-to-floor terracing for maximum air circulation and natural lighting. "It was built to let in plenty of natural light so as to decrease the amount of electricity needed, while triple-glazed glass and a special ventilation system cut down on the energy used," they write.

Funded with a state appropriation and private donations from alumni and corporate partners, the new building will advance the School’s efforts to promote business, information security, and technological and social entrepreneurship on campus and in the Capital Region. The building houses 24 cutting-edge classrooms, two executive classrooms, and was designed to support the School’s innovative research and collaborative programming with business leaders from every industry. In fall 2014, the School will launch an undergraduate program in digital forensics -- the first of its kind in New York and only the third such program in the nation.

In October, the School announced a $1.5 million gift from Capital Region philanthropists J. Spencer and Patricia Standish to create an endowed professorship in entrepreneurship. At the time of the announcement, Pat Standish commented, "We are pleased that our gift adds to the School of Business's momentum and capitalizes on the potential of the School’s spectacular new building."
