UAlbany set to host America East Tournament

The University at Albany is set to host the America East Basketball Championship at SEFCU Arena, March 7-10. The UAlbany women’s basketball team will be the No. 1 seed in the 2014 America East Women’s Basketball Championship, while the men's team will be the fourth seed.

The women's teams will begin play with four quarterfinal games on Friday with the first game tipping off at noon. UAlbany will take on Binghamton at 6 p.m. All of the games at the 2014 Championship will broadcast live on ESPN3 or ESPNU and available via WatchESPN.com and the WatchESPN app on smartphones and tablets. The men's quarterfinal games will take place on Saturday, with UAlbany set to face UMBC at 2 p.m.

SEFCU Arena will serve as the host venue for the both the men's and women's 2014 America East Championship.

In the women's tournament, the semifinals will feature the four remaining teams on Sunday, March 9 beginning at 11 a.m. Both games will be available live on ESPN3. The title game will held on Monday, March 10 at 4 p.m. at SEFCU Arena The final, which will crown the 2014 America East Champion and determine the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, will be televised nationally on ESPNU.

The Great Danes (25-4, 15-1 AE) had already clinched the No. 1 seed and the regular-season title for the second-straight season heading into Saturday’s action. Albany had its America East record 38-game conference winning streak stopped by Stony Brook, falling, 66-56. The Great Danes will take on No. 8 seed Binghamton (5-23, 2-13 AE) at 6 p.m. in the quarterfinals on Friday night as they begin their quest for a third-straight tournament title.

The men's semifinal games will take place on Sunday beginning at 5 p.m. Both games will be televised live on ESPN3. The semifinal winners will advance to the championship game on Saturday, March 15 at 11:30 a.m. at the home of the highest remaining seed. The title game will air live on ESPN2.

Tickets for the America East Basketball Championship are available through the UAlbany ticket office. The women's basketball team will be seeking its third straight title, while the men's team will also look to defend the title they won at the 2013 Championship.
