Physics, Dance Collide at UAlbany Artistic Performance
ALBANY, N.Y. (April 23, 2014) -- At UAlbany's Performing Arts Center (PAC), dancers are getting ready to take physics to the stage. Throughout the spring semester, the Ellen Sinopoli Dance Company and UAlbany associate professor of Physics Keith Earle have been exploring the interplay of dance and physics.

"In my teaching I'm often trying to demonstrate fairly abstract concepts: what is an electric field, or what is a magnetic field?" said Earle. For some of his students, having a concrete image to work with has proven to be more beneficial than equations alone. This is where Sinopoli's dance troupe enters the computation.
Working together, Sinopoli and Earle have used more than a dozen laws of physics as a means to discover and develop movement, patterns and motivation that deeply intertwine the science with the dance. On Friday, April 25, the dance company will perform ChoreoPhysics: Seeing the Science, Envisioning the Invisible at 7:30 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center, which includes the premiere of Earle and Sinopoli’s new work traversing the intersection of scholarship and the arts.
Advance tickets are $15 for the general public and $10 for students, seniors and UAlbany faculty or staff. Tickets purchased on the day of the show are $20 for the general public and $15 for students, seniors and UAlbany faculty-staff.
