UAlbany Biologist Receives $1.43 Million NIH Award for Germline Research to Find Therapies for Cancer and Degenerative Diseases
Biologist Prashanth Rangan has received a $1.43 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for his research into both preventing and inducing differentiation in stem cells in order to treat cancers and degenerative diseases. Last month he was named a Pew Scholar in the Biomedical Sciences as an outstanding young scientist.

Mark Benson Named UAlbany's New Director of Athletics
Benson, 45, becomes the University's second AD since the program entered Division I sports 15 years ago. Previously the senior associate athletic director at Old Dominion University, he will provide leadership for UAlbany’s NCAA Division I, 19-sport intercollegiate athletics program and its scholar student-athletes.

University at Albany Welcomes Class of 2018
UAlbany will begin its 2014-2015 academic year by welcoming an academically talented incoming freshman class of over 2,500 enrolled from an applicant pool of more than 21,768. The students will be joined by 58 new full-time faculty members this academic year, many hired through Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s NYSUNY 2020 initiative.

UAlbany Professor Awarded $1.2 Million from U.S. Dept. of Education to Groom Next Generation of Special Education Professors
UAlbany Professor Kevin Quinn has been awarded a special education leadership grant from the U.S. Department of Education to develop new leaders in special education doctoral programs. The project was just one of 14 selected nationally for funding from more than 100 applications and will be supported by $1.2 million over five years.
