#UAlbanySummer: Graduate Student on Mission to Decode Albany’s 800 Street Names
UAlbany graduate student Erik Schlimmer is launching a long-term project to decode the meaning behind all of Albany’s 800 current street names. He plans to unveil his findings in a book titled, “Capital Cobblestone,” after conducting approximately four years of research. -

The University at Albany Foundation announces it will honor the Dean of Albany Medical College, Vincent P. Verdile, M.D., retired President and CEO of Capital District Physicians’ Health Plan William J. Cromie, M.D., and President and COO of Omni Development Company, Inc., I. David Swawite as 2015 Citizen Laureates on Nov. 11. -
Utilizing Big Data to Advance Research in Psychology, Anthropology, Linguistics, and Sociology
UAlbany Computer Science Professor Tomek Strzalkowski, the director of UAlbany's Institute for Informatics, Logics and Security Studies (ILS), has been awarded $499,930 through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Army Research Laboratory's Open Campus initiative to explore the manner in which new data capture techniques can help advance research in areas such as psychology, anthropology, linguistics, and sociology.

UAlbany Scientist Garners NSF CAREER Award for Study of Oceans
UAlbany scientist Brian Rose has been awarded $544,681 through the National Science Foundation (NSF) Faculty Early Development (CAREER) Program. Rose, an assistant professor in the Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences at UAlbany, will utilize the support to examine the role of oceans in the planetary energy cycles.

AVAIL Researchers Leverage Open Data and Social Media to Increase Voter Turnout in New York State
UAlbany AVAIL researchers Alex Muro and Eric Krans have recently unveiled a mobile-optimized web application called Electorate. The app, a social voter information platform, aims at increasing the downward trending voting turnout numbers in New York by tapping into open data. -
UAlbany Students' Art Showcased in Best of SUNY Exhibition
Four University at Albany students – Christine Batson, Ryan Clow, Jason van Staveren, and Simeon Youngmann -- were recently named finalists in a SUNY-wide art competition. A summer intern in the Washington, D.C., office of Arizona Rep. Raúl Grijalva, Martinez was chosen from a pool of more than 100 national applicants. -
