The Albany Visualization and Informatics Lab Makes Data Dance

ALBANY, N.Y. The Albany Visualization and Informatics Lab (AVAIL) transforms data to knowledge at a level no one else in the nation can produce. Industry and government — even the Federal Highway Administration — often has tons of data, but “they’ve never seen it” until AVAIL makes it dance before their eyes.

So says Catherine Lawson, associate professor in the Department of Geography and Planning and director of AVAIL and UAlbany's Mumford Center. AVAIL brings knowledge right to a client’s web browser in a form that elicits solutions, often with new ideas the client never thought possible. AVAIL “gives them eyes they’ve never had before,” says Lawson.
