Join the Fitness Trend at Fit Fair
Exercise is a good way to reduce stress. |
ALBANY, N.Y. (February 16, 2016) – People across campus are getting fit, and the trend is growing. Campus Recreation is promoting wellness at its inaugural Fit Fair, on Monday, February 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Physical Education Gymnasium.
Campus Recreation’s group exercise classes are popular.
“Each class this semester has been at capacity and in some cases we have had to turn away students because we didn’t have any more room or equipment left,” said Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness Jessica Blasioli. “For example, Zumba had 80 students show up and the room only holds 70.”
Zumba, spinning, and yoga are the most popular classes this semester, however, functional fitness (boot camp and TRX suspension training) are gaining ground. Campus Recreation offers 26 classes a week and eight wellness programs.
While the fair was created for students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend.
“We will be promoting intramurals and group exercise along with the other offerings Campus Recreation has,” said Blasioli. This semester 10 different intramural sports leagues and tournaments are being offered, including basketball, sand pit volleyball, and wiffleball.
More information on intramurals and group exercise is available.
Taking care to eat right, exercise, and get enough sleep can go by the wayside when students are writing long papers and cramming for exams.
“A healthy lifestyle consists of being mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually, environmentally, and socially balanced,” said Blasioli. “Taking time to de-stress and form healthy relationships can help with this.”
