Women’s Basketball Shares America East Regular Season Title; Postseason Set to Begin

ALBANY, N.Y. (March 1, 2016) – With a dominating 84-39 victory over Hartford on Sunday at SEFCU Arena, the University at Albany women’s basketball team earned a share of the 2015-16 America East regular season title.

UAlbany will be the No. 1 seed (winning a tiebreaker over Maine) for the upcoming 2016 America East Women’s Basketball Championship. The Great Danes play Vermont in a quarterfinal match-up on Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

The women’s quarterfinal and semifinal rounds are being held at Binghamton University’s Events Center on Saturday and Sunday. All games will broadcast live on ESPN3 and are available via WatchESPN.com.

Following this weekend, the highest remaining seed will host the championship game on Friday, March 11 at 4:30 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU, with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament up for grabs. View the full bracket here.

UAlbany (24-4, 15-1 AE) is the four-time defending America East Conference champion. They are currently riding an 11-game tournament winning streak. The team is led by senior Shereesha Richards, who is projected to be drafted to the WNBA in April. View her story here.

The UAlbany men’s basketball team has clinched the No. 2 seed for the America East Men’s Basketball Championship. They host Hartford in the quarterfinal round at SEFCU Arena on Wednesday.
