Designed to empower students to reach new levels of success by linking them with advisors who can provide the support needed to stay on track academically, the data analytics and personalized support system ensures faculty and staff possess the advanced advising tools needed to conduct early outreach and intervention for students in academic distress before they reach a tipping point.
The program is woven into eight integral areas for first-year UAlbany students: undergraduate research, class size, internship opportunities, individual student success teams, public engagement, global education, entrepreneurship opportunities, and leadership and training.
UAlbany Advantage is part of a broader strategy to promote student success, which also includes:
- Expanding Living-Learning Communities.
- Employing faculty intervention in enhanced first-year Writing and Critical Inquiry Instruction.
- Enhancing support for Advisement Plus via the Supplemental Instruction (SI) Program.
- Encouraging applied learning opportunities.
- Promoting undergraduate research opportunities.
- Expanding service learning and leadership development.
The overarching goal is to support the development of career literacy through experiential or applied learning activities so students develop the necessary skills, competencies, and a co-curricular record that will help them succeed after graduation.
The program is supported by $1.5 million in funding from the University System’s Investment and Performance Fund, and is a partnership between UAlbany’s Academic Affairs and Student Affairs. The University introduced the campus community to UAlbany Advantage in November 2015.
