Suraj Commuri Named Associate Dean for Undergraduate Research 

ALBANY, N.Y. (May 19, 2016) -- Vice Provost and Dean for Undergraduate Education Jeanette Altarriba has announced the appointment of Suraj Commuri as associate dean for Undergraduate Research within the Office of Undergraduate Education.

Commuri, an associate professor in the School of Business, joins a team dedicated to furthering the goals of undergraduate student engagement, applied and experiential education, and research engagement, at the University.

“We look forward to working alongside Dr. Commuri, as we move forward to this next chapter of undergraduate research on our campus during the evolution of the Office of Undergraduate Education. Please join me in congratulating Suraj in his new role on our campus,” said Altarriba.

Commuri has a Ph.D. in Business from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and two master’s degrees in Business Administration and Management Studies (Marketing), respectively. With an extensive research record, he has led a number of research teams in the general areas of marketing, advertising, branding, and brand strategy for many regional, national, and international organizations.

Commuri’s research interests include household decision behavior/consumer generated content. Other specialties include marketing research and eMarketing. He regularly teaches courses in marketing management, market research, buyer behavior, and social media marketing.

His record of research publications includes works in venues such as the Journal of Marketing, the Journal of Consumer Research, the Journal of Macromarketing, Communication Education, and Qualitative Market Research. With numerous regional, national and international research presentations, Commuri has established himself as a vibrant scholar in the areas of consumer research, consumer resource management, and consumer socialization.

He has worked with students on the production of student theses at the doctoral and master’s levels, and has taught a broad array of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels since his arrival on the UAlbany campus in 2007.

His service contributions to his department, the School of Business, and indeed, to the University are numerous and noteworthy, including his role as Chair of the Department of Marketing.
