Bag Ban

New rules on what can be brought into Casey Stadium will ensure the ease of entry into the facility and increase efficiency and safety.

ALBANY, N.Y. (Sept. 23, 2016) — Starting with Saturday’s football game at Casey Stadium, fans will be limited in what they can bring into the stands. Basically, if it doesn’t fit into a clear, one-gallon bag, leave it in the car.

UAlbany Athletics partnered with the University Police Department to implement the new rules, which will ensure the ease of entry into the stadium.

“We are refining our protocol after self-analysis for efficiency and safety,” said UPD Chief Frank Wiley. “This change is not connected to any specific threat to our campus.”

Director of Athletics Mark Benson said the changes will speed security checks, and were made in an abundance of caution in consideration of recent threats to public safety elsewhere in the Northeast.

“In light of recent events and to help our campus police ensure a safe and enjoyable event, we are implementing policies that will streamline admittance into our games for all fans,” he said. “We understand that this may be slightly inconvenient for the initial game, but fan safety and enjoyment is our priority.”

Each ticketholder, including children, can bring one clear plastic bag, no larger than 12-by-6-by-12 inches, or a one-gallon clear plastic storage bag. Small cameras, binoculars or cell phones can be placed in the bag or carried loosely. If you are bringing a blanket, carry it over your shoulder so you can be screened quickly.

Ticketholders wearing coats or jackets, cargo plants or baggy clothing will be subject to a search. Extra clothing should either be placed in the bag or carried loosely. The only purses or handbags permitted will be small clutch or strapped bags, no larger than 4.5-by-6.5 inches.

Prohibited items include tote bags, backpacks, fanny packs, briefcases, computer bags, binocular or camera bags, or any bags that are not clear or are larger than the proscribed size. That includes diaper bags – diapers and changing supplies must be placed in a clear plastic bag.

Also prohibited are seat cushions and portable chairs, thermoses and coolers, outside food, strollers and pets.

Saturday’s game begins at 7 p.m. with the undefeated Great Danes taking on Saint Francis University of Loretto, Pa.
