The Final Frontier

ALBANY, N.Y. (Nov. 14, 2016) – UAlbany’s departments of Physics and Computer Science invited Star Trek fans to come together for a weekend-long convention at the Radisson Hotel on Wolf Road in Albany from Nov. 11-13.

The event included appearances from actors in the science fiction franchise’s 50-year history, as well as several UAlbany faculty-led discussions on a variety of topics ranging from artificial intelligence to time travel. Attendees were encouraged to dress up as their favorite characters from the movie.

Physics professors Kevin Knuth and Matthew Szydagis helped organize the convention and oversaw the selection of speakers. They were joined by George Berg of UAlbany’s Computer Science Department and physics professors Oleg Lunin, Phillip Goyal and Alexander Khmaladze.
