Women's Basketball's Great Growl
They thank mentors, host and coach Girl Scouts . . . and, oh yes, top Hartford.
ALBANY, N.Y. (January 31, 2017) — The women’s basketball program had a busy Saturday, Jan. 28 — spreading a message of empowerment on and off the court.
Joanna Bernabei-McNamee, “Coach Mac,” invited Albany-area girl scouts to not only attend UAlbany's America East Conference game with Hartford, but to get a luncheon and a skills session from Great Dane players. And then, the kids even got to “camp out” on the SEFCU Arena court overnight.
The Danes also hosted the season’s first pre-game gathering of “Uptown Stilettos,” a Capital District group of successful women (and men) who advocate for UAlbany women’s basketball, not only by attending games, but also through providing professional mentorship to the team’s players.
Representatives of those attending was City of Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan, who stayed afterward to root on the Danes as an honorary bench captain.
