A Distinguished Career
ALBANY, N.Y. (June 12, 2017) – When The Weather Channel calls you a legend, it must be true.
Lance Bosart, a distinguished professor in UAlbany’s Department of Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences (DAES), was featured Sunday on The Weather Channel’s "WX Geeks" to discuss his illustrious career and the future of forecasting.
He was interviewed one-on-one by Marshall Shepherd of the University of Georgia for more than 15 minutes on-air.
“We have truly one of the legends of the field of meteorology with us today,” said Shepherd when welcoming Bosart to the show. “He really is just one of our legends in our field. Very well-known professor. A lot of what we know about meteorology we know because of Lance.”
Bosart is among the world’s most influential synoptic-dynamic meteorologists – the study of large-scale (1000+ kilometers) weather systems.
Since joining UAlbany in 1969, Bosart has spent his career building an impressive research portfolio, traveling across all five continents to advance various research problems related to meteorology. In the classroom, his students have gone on to prestigious postings in academic, scientific, and governmental organizations all over the globe.
Bosart is the recipient of the National Weather Association’s (NWA’s) Lifetime Achievement Award and a Jule Charney Award, one of the American Meteorological Society’s (AMS) highest prizes. In February, the 97th annual meeting of the American Meteorological Society devoted its final day to the Lance Bosart Symposium.
