Strategic Planners Take to the Road

ALBANY, N.Y. (Feb. 1, 2018) — Shortly after his arrival last fall, President Rodríguez called for the formation of an expanded Strategic Planning Committee (SPC) to be co-chaired by Provost James Stellar and Vice President for Student Affairs Michael Christakis.
The co-chairs assembled a 100-plus SPC membership, as well as an SPC executive committee, representing a diverse group of stakeholders from across the campus community to achieve this critical work.
The goal was to advance five core institutional priorities: student success, research excellence, internationalization, service and engagement, and diversity and inclusion — relying heavily on interdisciplinary collaboration.
Much has been accomplished during this accelerated timeline. The SPC has embarked on presenting a draft strategic plan at a series of campus roadshows — such as the one today at 1 p.m. for Undergraduate Education in Assembly Hall. The campus community is highly encouraged to attend a session to learn more about the plan and offer feedback. The full schedule of presentations scheduled through early March 2018 can be accessed here.
Once the sessions are complete and the feedback has been incorporated into the plan, the President will share the final plan with the campus on April 3.
The final plan will align with the launch the University’s comprehensive fundraising campaign and the ongoing branding initiative, making this a truly exciting time for our campus community!
In the coming weeks, look to Today at UAlbany for a series of pieces featuring insight from the work group co-chairs. We’ll examine what these priorities mean, how they will impact the University and how we intend to apply these priorities to our work.
