ALBANY, N.Y. (March 10, 2018) — Connor Fields' goal with a minute and 16 seconds remaining capped off a remarkable fourth quarter comeback to give the #1 in the nation Great Danes an 11-10 victory over #2 Maryland in College Park, Maryland, Saturday afternoon.
Down 10-6 going into the final stanza, the Danes parlayed a series of winning faceoffs by specialilst TD Ierlan, four saves by JD Colarusso — the last as time expired — and goals by junior attackman Fields (2), sophomore attackman Jakob Patterson (2) and senior midfielder Kyle McClancy (1) to shock the Terrapins on their home field.
Fields began the Great Dane comeback 1:03 into the final period with his third of four goals on the day, pulling UAlbany to within three, 10-7. The score held for 9 minutes and 43 seconds before McClancyl scored with 6:14 to go, pulling UAlbany to within 2.
From there, Patterson took over, boosted by Ierlan's wins off faceoffs, hitting for scores with 5:05 and 4:28 to go, lifting the Great Danes into a tie.
Three minutes and 12 seconds later, Fields hit the tie-breaker. UAlbany held on, despite a turnover at the very end, but a final shot by Maryland's Connor Kelly was snagged by Colarusso.
