ALBANY, N.Y. (May 7, 2018) — Student Association Director of Public Relations Ryan Maestre of Brentwood, Long Island, is a double major in communications and journalism, with a minor in leadership.
Maestre was on the Dean’s List in the fall 2014 and 2017, and spring of 2015 and 2016. He received the Spellman Academic Achievement award in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018. He was inducted into Lambda Pi Eta National Communication Association in fall 2017.
Maestre received a LEAD certificate from the Center for Leadership. A resident assistant and a quad representative for the Resident Assistant Advisory Board, he also has been a Purple and Gold ambassador since 2016. He was the retention co-chair for Alpha Phi Omega National Community Service Fraternity, and completed over 100 hours of community service.
Maestre co-founded the Janus initiative, a professional business club committed to helping students excel. He was a member of the Toastmasters International Public Speaking Organization and was a writer for the Albany Student Press in 2016.
He volunteered for the Drive Out Hunger campaign and at the Regional Food Bank, and has raised hundreds of dollars for families and children in need for the holiday season. Along with Alpha Phi Omega, he created hygiene kits for people in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria.
Maestre is currently a social media intern on the student affairs media team. After graduation, he plans to pursue a career in broadcast media or communications consulting.
“In 10 years, I hope to gain enough experience and insight to create my own life coaching service for personal development,” Maestre said. “Personal coaching has been an aspiration of mine since my high school career. There is no doubt that I will pursue that career in the future.”
