ALBANY, N.Y. (May 30, 2018) — Peter Bulger is no newcomer to philanthropy at the University at Albany.
Over the years, the 1977 graduate has donated to the construction of the Science Library, the Institute for Financial Market Regulation and Bob Ford Field, and for many years sponsored the Great Danes Golf Outing.
Five years ago, Bulger made a $50,000 gift to establish The Family of Peter Bulger Scholarship, which supports deserving scholar-athletes. Now Bulger has made a new $500,000 planned gift to support the fund.
“We felt it was appropriate to ensure that others would have the opportunity to attend this fine institution,” Bulger said.
A dedicated fan of Great Danes athletes, Bulger and his wife, Cindy, are frequently seen courtside in the SEFCU arena, cheering on UAlbany’s men and women athletes.
One of those athletes was the first recipient of the Bulger Scholarship: former star basketball player and outstanding student David Nichols, who graduated as a Communication major and Business minor with a 3.91 GPA.
Bulger, who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from UAlbany and an MBA from Fordham University, serves on the board of directors of The University at Albany Foundation. He also sits on the board of the Great Dane Athletic Club and is a member of the SIFMA Institutional Brokerage Committee, which he chaired in 2010.
He has more than 30 years of Wall Street experience and worked with CL King & Associates for 24 years, serving as executive managing director, chief operating officer and a member of the Board of Directors. He is now serves as a securities consultant with the TIA Group and Front Street Consulting.
“In making this remarkable gift, Peter is setting a valuable example and making a firm commitment to the future of his family’s scholarship and UAlbany’s student-athletes," said Fardin Sanai, vice president for University Development and executive director of The University at Albany Foundation. “We are grateful for his vision and for providing an exceptional education for our students.”
