L-LC Community Service Weekend

ALBANY, N.Y. (Sept. 25, 2018) – More than 500 Living-Learning Community (L-LC) students volunteered on campus and in the local community during the weekend of Sept. 15-16.

The weekend kicked off with students assisting at the annual “Mississippi Day” celebration in Lincoln Park. President Havidán Rodríguez and Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan attended to show their support. Students also completed projects that afternoon in the Central Ave. and Downtown Business Improvement Districts.

Sunday saw a plethora of on-campus community service projects. These included:

  • Writing letters for active service military members
  • Making dog toys for the Humane Society
  • Putting together lunch bags for the capital City Mission
  • Refurbishing children’s books for the Red Bookshelf Project.

Students also ventured off-campus on Sunday to volunteer at “Meet, Munch, and More” in the Pine Hills Neighborhood.

UAlbany’s L-LCs:

Living-Learning Communities (L-LCs) provide freshmen with an opportunity to live and take classes with other incoming students who share the same personal interests, passions or intended academic major.

Students can select from a wide range of L-LCs that are divided into two groups: major-specific communities and special-interest communities.
