Olympic Gold Medalist Aly Raisman to Speak on Campus Dec. 3
Aly Raisman will discuss her life experiences and new book as the headliner for the Fall 2018 Speaker Series.

ALBANY, N.Y. (Nov. 13, 2018) – U.S. Olympian and author Aly Raisman will discuss her life experiences and new book as the headliner for the University at Albany’s Fall 2018 Speaker Series on Monday, Dec. 3.
The event is free and open to current UAlbany students, faculty, staff, alumni and the general public. It is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in SEFCU Arena. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are available online. Due to anticipated demand, only two tickets will be available per registrant. Printed confirmations are required for admittance and seating is first-come, first-serve.
A “Fierce” Champion
Aly Raisman is one of the most decorated American gymnasts of all time, winning six Olympic medals as a captain of the U.S. women’s gymnastics teams, the “Fierce Five” in 2012 and “Final Five” in 2016. She now uses her platform to promote body positivity, advocate for sexual abuse survivors and push for systematic changes within the sport of gymnastics.
Raisman’s 2017 New York Times best-selling memoir “Fierce: How Competing for Myself Changed Everything” delves into both her victories and struggles over the course of her gymnastics career, including surviving sexual abuse.
She is a native of Needham, Mass., and started gymnastics at just 18 months old.
The Speaker Series
UAlbany’s Speaker Series has brought world leaders and thinkers to campus since its inception 10 years ago. It has featured nationally-recognized icons including President Bill Clinton (Spring 2011), Earvin 'Magic' Johnson (Fall 2011), Bill Nye (Spring 2015), Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor (Spring 2017) and Octavia Spencer (Fall 2017).
The series is sponsored by the UAlbany Student Association, Division of Student Affairs, University Auxiliary Services and the Alumni Association, in partnership with the New York State Writers Institute.
