Fu Yee Chua was raised in Hong Kong and moved to Queens with her parents the year before she came to UAlbany.
Here she learned “that one should not limit herself or himself. People can achieve more than they expect if they try to challenge themselves.”
So she challenged herself. Chua is a triple major: Biology with honors, Psychology and Economics. She volunteered at Albany Med in both nursing units and the transportation department – both useful ways to learn about patient care, she says.
She tutored underclassmen in genetics and physics, and has presented her research on Type 2 diabetes at the Undergraduate Research Conference. She has held leadership positions in clubs and organizations on campus, and is a member of the Honors College and several honors societies, including Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society and the Phi Betta Kappa Honor Society.
After graduating, Chua plans to go to medical school and become a doctor. “I may apply for PhD study after medical school but I do not have a confirmed answer on that yet,” she says.
