The 175th: A Milestone for UAlbany and its Newest Grads
Multiple ceremonies produce a multitude of lasting memories
ALBANY, N.Y. (May 21, 2019) – Thousands of students, rooted on by their parents, relatives, teachers and friends, took part in a total of 18 ceremonies — all but one held between last Wednesday and Sunday — where they received individual attention and ultimately their University at Albany degrees at the historic 175th Commencement of our institution.
Five ceremonies are pictured here. One went back to May 3: the 2019 International Celebration, honoring graduating students hailing from 23 nations. The Wednesday - Sunday schedule began with the Doctoral Hooding on Wednesday in SEFCU Arena, where SUNY Chairman H. Carl McCall received the Medallion of the University.

On Thursday, the Lavender Celebration was held in the CC Ballroom, followed at 5:30 p.m. by the University-wide Master’s and Graduate Certificate Ceremony in SEFCU. At the latter, Ray Bromley, professor of Geography and Planning, became a Collins Fellow, the University's highest designation for outstanding service and commitment to the institution.
The Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony, held on Sunday morning on the University’s Entry Plaza, began with heavy downpours that lasted through the ceremony's first half. But later, in what President Rodríguez called a symbol of the graduates’ bright futures, skies turned blue and the sun shone brightly. Kathryn V. Marinello ’78, president and CEO of Hertz Global Holdings, delivered the undergraduate commencement address.
