ALBANY, N.Y. (Feb. 25, 2020) — There is nothing more certain than the approach of spring. And there is nothing so close to certain as the women's track & field team winning the America East indoor title. The program scored its eighth straight championship this past weekend at Boston University, led by the meet's outstanding performer, junior Asia Jinks, who won the 50-meter hurdles and 400-meter runs and anchored UAlbany's championship-meet-record win in the 4-by-400-meter relay.

The men's team in Boston made it 14 out of 15 titles, and two in a row, led by outstanding meet performer Jan Michael Gutierrez Almedina, a senior who won the 200-meter sprint in championship time and led off UAlbany's 4X400-meter relay victory.

While track & field teams are preparing for the ECAC championships next weekend, and men's and women's basketball teams are gearing up for the America East playoffs, Great Danes spring sports are underway and looking toward some major events — none perhaps bigger than when the men's lacrosse team hosts for the first time 11-time national champion Syracuse on April 3 at Casey Stadium.

But the lacrosse match is just one of several exciting athletic events set for the spring, as baseball, softball, track and field, women's lacrosse and women's golf all have events scheduled in the coming months.

Following the ECAC and NCAA indoor championships, track & field will kick off another championship-defending (this time, outdoor) season on March 20 with a trip to the Spring Break Classic in Puerto Rico. The teams will also once again host the UAlbany Spring Classic on May 8.
