Resources Remain Available for Students' Physical and Mental Health

Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, and the Advocacy Center for Sexual Violence remain open this semester.

ALBANY, N.Y. (Aug. 25, 2020) – As the new school year begins with many changes in academics and facilities, it’s important to remember the UAlbany resources available to students.

Student Health Services (SHS), Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) and the Advocacy Center for Sexual Violence are open, with most services operating virtually.

Student Health Services

Visits are by appointment only – absolutely no walk-ins. Call 518-442-5229 for an appointment or 518-442-5454 with general questions or concerns.

Most initial appointments, including those for students with COVID-19 symptoms, will be via telemedicine, which may be followed up with an in-person appointment as needed. If a clinician determines follow-up is needed, students will be seen inside the SHS facility.

Through a partnership with North Shore Laboratory, COVID-19 testing is available by appointment only for both symptomatic and asymptomatic UAlbany students by calling 518-442-5229. Testing will be conducted in the tent across from the SHS entrance and students should bring their insurance information and student IDs.

Limited parking is available in front of the Health and Counseling Services building (now located on the south side of Dutch Quad, across from the athletic fields), however ample parking is available in the Dutch Quad student lot.

The pharmacy remains open for students to fill prescriptions from SHS clinicians.

While much attention has been focused on COVID-19, flu season is fast approaching and we are facing a “Twin Pandemic.” Twelve flu clinics are scheduled in CC 116 on the Uptown Campus. All will be held from 1 – 4 p.m. Please monitor the SHS website for any potential location change announcements.

The best protection against COVID-19 is to wear a mask and remain physically distant. As always and particularly as we approach flu season, you should also wash hands frequently, avoid touching your face, steer clear of people who are sick, cover your cough or sneeze with your elbow or a tissue, and stay home when you are sick.

Counseling & Psychological Services

CAPS is open and providing all services virtually. Services include individual and couples counseling, group counseling, psychiatry, consultation and referrals.

A range of therapy groups, support groups and skill-building groups will be offered this semester. For more information, visit their website.

“Let’s Talk” will also be virtual. The schedule and information about how to access Let’s Talk can be found here.

As always, all CAPS services are confidential and free. To set up an appointment, students should call CAPS at 518-442-5800 or email [email protected].

The Advocacy Center for Sexual Violence

This summer, the Advocacy Center relocated to the new Health and Counseling Services building on the south side of Dutch Quad – bridging critical and often related services while continuing to provide a dedicated space for those seeking support related to sexual violence.

The Advocacy Center provides a safe and welcoming environment for students to receive support and advocacy services in the aftermath of sexual violence including, but not limited to, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, sexual exploitation and/or stalking.

Call 518-442-CARE (2273) or email [email protected] to be connected with an advocate.
