Parking Issues
(May
6, 2005)
Vice President for Finance and Business Kathryn
Lowery has proposed creating a standing Parking,
Transportation, and Navigation Commission.
The issue of having enough parking, a perennial
source of concern, is not likely to go away
soon, in light of plans to increase the number
of students
and continue campus capital projects. Other concerns related to pedestrians,
bicycling, and mass transit have been raised, as well.
The proposed commission will meet regularly
to review and propose campus philosophy, policy
changes, and advise on all parking and transportation
matters. It will be charged with drafting plans
related to parking in the context of the larger
campus plans and objectives.
The group will have its first meeting in
June.
Reports and proposals will be shared regularly
with the President's Executive Committee
and the University Facilities Committee of the
University Senate.
