Tour May 16
by Carol Flax (May
6, 2005)
New faculty will join President Kermit L.
Hall on a Roads Scholar Tour Monday, May 16,
designed to introduce them to the Capital Region.
The group, accompanied by Interim Provost Jeryl
Mumpower, Professor of Geography and Planning
John Pipkin and several UAlbany students, will
travel first to Schenectady High School, where
the professors will teach their special areas
of expertise to high school students. They
will then travel to the state Capitol, where
Assemblyman Jack McEneny (D-Albany) will
give them a tour.
After lunch and a visit to Quackenbush
Square and the visitors’ center, the
faculty will head for Troy, where they will
visit the Capital District Center for the Arts
and take a walking tour of the historic district,
including the Troy Music Hall, with Stephen
Schechter of Sage College.
The final stop on the tour will be the Times
Union, where the professors will have the opportunity
to sit in on an editorial meeting.
Pipkin will provide historical commentary about
the Capital Region between stops on the bus tour.
